It all centres on a phone app – an educational video game – that promotes a more rational use of electricity and water. Designed by a European project called TRIBE, the app was applied by Acciona to the BRICKER project. As a partner in both projects, Acciona helped design and then test the game-changing app in real-life conditions at the BRICKER demo site in Liège.
In addition to the app itself, the TRIBE initiative includes a number of measures to model and assess user behaviour and energy consumption. In particular, it uses WiTMo, a platform for remote monitoring, data visualisation and analysis to which information from the app is transmitted in real time. The aim is to produce a set of procedures and recommendations for implementing similar energy monitoring systems and apps in both residential and non-residential buildings across Europe and beyond.
Although very different in nature, both TRIBE and BRICKER contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable built environment and offer a great example of European cross-project collaboration.
